ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Category Eligibility Criteria For Form Fill Up Additional Criteria
General (Minimum aggregate 50% AND 45% in Philosophy or Psychology) OR (55% in Philosophy or Psychology if aggregate below 50% but more than 45%). Candidates not having Philosophy in Class XII may apply provided they have obtained 55% in aggregate. Must have passed in English
SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, OBC-A & OBC-B communities should obtain a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate OR 40% marks in the subject or related subjects. SC,  ST & OBC communities recognised by Govt. of West Bengal are only eligible for the exemption mentioned above . Must have passed in English
Index Marks Calculation for Merit List With Philosophy : (Aggregate +  Philosophy)/2

Without Philosophy: (Aggregate + English (1st or 2nd Language))/2

PHILOSOPHY AS ELECTIVE:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA : 45% and above in aggregate
SUBJECT COMBINATION:
ENGLISH AND ONE MODERN INDIAN LANGUAGE (MIL) ARE COMPULSORY. HINDI / BENGALI / URDU ARE OFFERED AS MODERN INDIAN LANGUAGES. STUDENTS ARE TO CHOOSE THE HONOURS SUBJECTS AND TWO ELECTIVE SUBJECTS TAKING ONE SUBJECT ONLY FROM A GROUP. MUSIC MAY BE OPTED AS A NON-TAUGHT SUBJECT.

Events & Workshops

  • A special talk was organized by Department of Philosophy on 30.09.15. The session was conducted by Dr. Chaitali Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, B.K. Girls’ College, Howrah on ‘Gender and Society’.
  •  Special Lecture was organized by Department of Philosophy on 29.03.16. Sanjukta Basu, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Philosophy, Rabindra Bharati University delivered a lecture on ‘Hume: On Causality’.
